CMaR Project Brings Indoor Sports to Southeast Iowa
About 12 years ago, a group of local citizens formed the Southeast Iowa Sports Commission with a clear mission: build better youth sports facilities in Ottumwa.
After reviewing several options, the Commission identified the need for a full-scale indoor complex that would serve local kids and draw in visitors from surrounding communities.
Christner Contracting was invited to submit a proposal and, after interviews, was selected as the Construction Manager at Risk (CMaR) for the project.
From the start, local engagement was a priority. We worked closely with area contractors during planning and design. Pinnacle Sports, based in Louisville, joined the team as the owner’s representative and coordinated the specialized sports equipment package. They also brought in a design firm to provide detailed plans and specs.
After months of planning and public presentations, the team finalized a plan and issued public bids for the pre-engineered steel building. The contract was awarded to Schaus Vorhies of Fairfield, Iowa.
Today, the 66,000-square-foot facility includes:
A walking track
Indoor turf for football, soccer, and baseball
Courts for basketball, volleyball, tennis, and pickleball
A viewing mezzanine, full concession stand, party rooms, and elevator access
Christner Contracting was proud to help bring this long-time community vision to life, on time and within the guaranteed maximum price.
